From a recent press release:
Commissioner George P. Bush announced that Brittany Eck, current Press Secretary for the Texas General Land Office (GLO), has transitioned to the role of Communications Director for the Community Development and Revitalization Program (CDR).
Karina Erickson, former Communications Director for U.S. Congressman Ted Poe, has joined the GLO as Press Secretary.
"The Texas General Land Office was faced with unprecedented responsibility in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey," said Commissioner Bush. "Brittany's extensive experience with the General Land Office and disaster response will be invaluable to the Community Development and Revitalization program and her new team. I look forward to growing our communications department as Karina joins the General Land Office. Her experience with Congressman Poe will be a great addition to the GLO team."
This transition comes as the Land Office expands the CDR program, giving help to thousands of Texans impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Funding for CDR staff comes from federal disaster recovery allocations. With the GLO's new role as the first agency in history to partner with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for short-term housing assistance, as well as more than $10 billion in long-term housing and mitigation funding, the GLO will continue its efforts to communicate effectively with community leaders and residents to ensure they are aware of available resources.
Eck has taken the lead on disaster recovery communications since Hurricane Harvey's landfall almost one year ago. She will expand her role to oversee the CDR communications team and supervise agency efforts related to both short and long-term disaster response.
Eck has more than a decade and a half experience in communications, government and community outreach. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Texas A&M University as well as a master's in communications from Johns Hopkins University.
Erickson returns to Texas from Washington, D.C. and will work with the land office to continue preserving our history, ensuring veteran receive the benefits they are due, supporting Texas education through the Permanent School Fund, and ushering in prudent stewardship of state lands and natural resources.
Erickson holds a master's in political management from The George Washington University and completed her undergraduate at Stephen F. Austin State University. Prior to her time on Capitol Hill, she worked for Facebook's political team and Texas State Representative Travis Clardy. Erickson, a 7th generation Texan brings experience in both traditional and digital media to the GLO communications team.
