Rep. Ana Hernandez Announces for Texas Senate
Per a post-primary press release:
Following Texas Senator Sylvia Garcia's successful campaign for the Democratic nomination for Congressional District 29, State Representative Ana Hernandez (D-Houston), announced her intention to run to fill a potential vacancy for Senate District 6.
If elected, Representative Hernandez would make history as the first former undocumented member of the Texas Senate. Known for her formidable legislative skills, Hernandez has been recognized as one of the most effective Democratic lawmakers in the Texas House, with a bill passage rate nearly 50% greater than her peers.
"Senator Garcia has been a tireless champion for our communities in Austin. As she prepares to fight on our behalf in our nation's capital, I hope to continue her legacy in our state government on the Senate floor," Hernandez said. "Since my election in 2005, I've always put hardworking Texas families first. From working across the aisle to improve state programs so that they better provide for veterans and their families to battling discriminatory, anti-family laws like SB 4 on the House floor and in court, I've never backed down from a challenge, and have never rested until the battle is won."
"Over the past few months, I have met with neighbors where they live, work and worship, and am ready to hit the campaign trail and earn our community's trust and vote. I look forward to kicking off our campaign in the coming days."
