Working It: Senator Zaffirini Wins 6 Awards from National Federation of Press Women

Texas State Senator Judith Zaffirini, a Laredo Democrat, has won six top honors from the National Federation of Press Women's Annual Communications Contest. Zaffirini received the top award for a speech she gave in 2016 when accepting the Outstanding Alumna Award from the Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin.

Public servants who are good communicators are more likely to excel as they strive to explain, analyze, persuade, influence and advocate their perspectives and to respond effectively to opposing viewpoints. Accordingly, the ability to communicate effectively enables a public servant to amplify his or her positive impact on the world and to serve the public interest better.
